(Brief history, DOP/Papers, why farming)
Becky
Becky Glass has worked in nonprofit social justice organizations since 1979. Before moving full time to our farm in 1991, she lived in Minneapolis MN, Washington DC, Chicago, Springfield and Champaign IL, Palm Springs CA, Muskegon, MN and Wichita KS. She has worked mostly from her home office on the farm since 2001.
She is currently the deputy director for the Labor Network for Sustainability, prior to that was the executive director of the Midwest States Center, and before that served as Midwest field director for The Youth Project, a national foundation. Before that she directed the Energy Project at the Washington DC–based Center for Policy Alternatives, and before that worked with state energy office in Illinois. She is a founding board member of the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy and also serves on the boards of Public Campaign and Every Voice.
She holds a master of Urban and Regional Planning, with emphasis in energy and transportation, from the University of Illinois.
Amber
Amber has grown up on our farm. She graduated from Boston University in May 2013 with a degree in Environmental Analysis and Policy. During her time at BU she studied abroad twice, once in Grenoble, FRANCE and once in Atenas, Costa Rica. She spent her first year after graduation managing a community service program (First-Year Student Outreach Project - FYSOP) for BU and moved to Chicago in 2014 for a job with Food & Water Watch where she organized a campaign opposing non-therapeutic use of antibiotics in livestock production.
She is interested in continuing to explore food and agriculture through an environmental lens. In her free time, she loves to cook, play ukulele, romp with the dogs, and be outside.
Furry Family
On the farm, we also have several furrier family members.
Grizzly
Grizz is part wild and all heart. He loves to lie in the shade, bury any bone he gets his mouth around, and all the pets he can get. He dislikes thunder and having his hair brushed/clipped.
Jabba
Otherwise known as Bear, Javert, and BaBa (but only to Amber). Jabba is half Tibetan Mastiff and half Bernese Mountain Dog. He joined our family at 14 months and 115 pounds of love. He prefers couches (and doesn't understand why they're not meant for him), lots of gravy, and long walks.
Kitty Little
Kitty, Cat, Kittykins, or KiKi adopted us when she was only a kitten. After charming Amber into bringing her into the warm basement on a cold winter's day, she happily took over her new domain and has presided over the house ever since. She loves tuna, gift ribbon, and climbing up trees. She detests climbing down trees.
Diego
Diego is a __ year old Paso Fino. He joined the family in _____ and enjoys apples, carrots, hay, apples, and pets.
Teebird
Teebird is a ___ year old Quarter Horse. She joined us when she was 2. She enjoys being in charge, frolicking in the field, and apples.
Dexter
Dexter is the great granddaddy Shetland pony of Dancing Oak Farm. He joined us when Amber was ___ and loves grazing most of all.
